Help, I'm Seeing Doubles!
08.23.04 (2:58 pm)   [edit]
Woof boys and girls, I've really enjoyed the stories I've received thus far. Thanks woof! Some of the boys and girls even gave me pictures to go along with their word problems! You guys really made my day. I've been concentrating so much on my 7, 8, and 9's, I need to review my 2's! Here's my story:
This morning I went on a walk and saw two of everything! I thought I was dreaming, but when I pinched myself, WOOF, it hurt, so I knew I was not dreaming. I saw 2 rabbits, 2 cats, 2 birds, 2 squirrels, 2 coyotes, and 2 dogs. How many animals did I see in all? 6 groups x 2 in each group = 12 animals in all.

My Mom said she has some blank math word problem papers in her classroom by the book report folder. Could you write a story with an illustration about the 2's and give it to my Mom, Miss Matsui? That would really make my day! I'll even put it up on the website so Sir Wally and Madam Keiko can see them too! Remember, no stick people, no white spaces, and no sun coming out from the corner of the sky! I know my Mom's rules for drawing! Woof! Woof!

Noooo! Not an Octopus for a Pet!
08.12.04 (4:13 pm)   [edit]
Listen woof, my owner, who I call Mom, is thinking about getting an octopus for a pet to help me learn my 8's! I don't want to share my mom with another pet. It's bad enough now... Sir Wally, Madam Keiko, and I are always fighting for her attention. Please send me a story to help me learn 8 x 6, 8 x 7, 8 x 8, and/or 8 x 9. Sir Wally and Madam Keiko helped me with this story this morning.

Do you know Pinocchio? Every time he tells a lie, his nose grows by 6 inches! Well, yesterday he forgot to do his homework, so he made up 8 excuses. First, he said his mom cooked his homework by accident. When that didn't sound believable, he said this elephant came to his house and ate his homework. Then he said mom used his homework to clean the windows! The teacher still didn't believe him so he said he lost his homework on the way to Mars. Next, he said his homework was stolen by the big bad wolf. After 5 lies, you think he'd stop. Nope. He then said these birds used his homework to build a nest. He also said the monster underneath his bed swallowed it. Finally, Pinocchio told our teacher that he had to be taken to the hospital because he started to grow a third arm!!! BAD BAD LIES. Do you know how long his nose was after his 8th lie? Well, 8 lies x 6 inches = 48 inches long! Try finding a ruler and see how long 48 inches is! It's really long.

Hmmm... I learned 2 things from this story. 8 x 6 = 48 and don't tell any lies! WOOF!

Ice Cream Party at Snow White's Castle
08.10.04 (5:32 pm)   [edit]
Woof, boys and girls. I've been practicing my multiplication table and I'm already on my 7's. I am having a hard time remembering that 7 x 6 = 42, so I thought I'd write a story to help me remember. These creative stories I write help me to understand why 7 x 6 = 42. Maybe you can help and send me some fun stories, too. The more stories I get, the more likely I'll remember 7 x 6 = 42.

Long ago, after Snow White was rescued by the prince, she decided to throw an ice cream party for her friends, Dopey, Grumpy, Doc, Bashful, Happy, Sneezy, and Sleepy. She wanted to let the Seven Dwarfs know that she appreciated their friendship, so she decided to make an enormous ice cream sundae for each dwarf. Each sundae would have a banana, whipped cream, chocolate fudge, cherry, and sprinkles with SIX scoops of ice cream! How many scoops of ice cream will Snow White have to scoop altogether? 7 dwarfs x 6 scoops = 42 scoops altogether!

Did you enjoy my story? Help me by sharing your story with me. Thank woof!
